Synopsis
In the distant future, humanity has been driven to near-extinction by giant beasts known as Klaxosaurs, forcing the surviving humans to take refuge in massive fortress cities called Plantations. Children raised here are trained to pilot giant mechas known as FranXX—the only weapons known to be effective against the Klaxosaurs—in boy-girl pairs. Bred for the sole purpose of piloting these machines, these children know nothing of the outside world and are only able to prove their existence by defending their race.

Hiro, an aspiring FranXX pilot, has lost his motivation and self-confidence after failing an aptitude test. Skipping out on his class' graduation ceremony, Hiro retreats to a forest lake, where he encounters a mysterious girl with two horns growing out of her head. She introduces herself by her codename Zero Two, which is known to belong to an infamous FranXX pilot known as the "Partner Killer." Before Hiro can digest the encounter, the Plantation is rocked by a sudden Klaxosaur attack. Zero Two engages the creature in her FranXX, but it is heavily damaged in the skirmish and crashes near Hiro. Finding her partner dead, Zero Two invites Hiro to pilot the mecha with her, and the duo easily defeats the Klaxosaur in the ensuing fight. With a new partner by his side, Hiro has been given a chance at redemption for his past failures, but at what cost?

Story Line(Plot)
In a post-apocalyptic future, humanity is under constant threat from giant creatures known as klaxosaurs (叫竜 kyoryū), which are sub-divided into at least four categories based on their size: "Conrad", "Mohorovičić",["Gutenberg" and "(Super) Lehmann".Pushed to the brink of annihilation, the mysterious organization known as APE has led the remnants of humanity to abandon the Earth's surface for the relative safety of mobile fortress-cities known as Plantations. To defend the Plantations, children called Parasites are raised to pilot giant mecha known as Franxx (フランキス Furankisu) in boy-girl pairs. Hiro is a former pilot-candidate prodigy who can no longer synchronize with his partner and they both fail to complete the training program. While skipping his class's graduation ceremony, Hiro encounters Zero Two, an infamous Franxx pilot with klaxosaur blood and red horns. After Zero Two's partner dies during a klaxosaur attack, Hiro volunteers to become her new partner, or "darling".

In the early 21st century, a group of scientists with no known origins or nationalities formed "APE" and operated with the Landmark Club. APE introduced revolutionary mining technology to dig up magma energy from deep underground creating a new low-cost and all-encompassing energy source. This advance gave APE huge influence on the international economy and politics, and sped up the development of human civilization.
In 2025, the scientist Werner Frank was hired by APE to research human immortality. His research was successful, initially enabling the wealthy to become immortals at the cost of losing their reproductive functions. Eventually the option became universally available. However, the heavy use of magma energy was at the cost of an increasing desertification of the planet leading to the creation of the Plantations containing their own ecosystems.

By the year 2037, Klaxosaurs (screaming reptiles) appeared to attack the magma energy plants, leading Werner Frank to develop the Franxx units which appeared five years later. There were several failed attempts to complete development of the Franxx units which cost many lives including that of Werner's wife, Karina Milsa. Werner Frank also used a hair sample of the humanoid Princess of Klaxosaurs to extract DNA to create Zero Two. Finally, a system of pairing young fertile male and female partners called Parasites was established. The Garden called Mistilteinn was built so that, in isolation, these children could develop the emotional responses required to pilot a Franxx.
Review
First of all, the story is about Hiro (code 016) who can't pilot the Franxx although his brain works above average, and he first able to pilot the franx is with Zero Two (code 002). They said that she has a curse to drain her partner's life after 3 times piloting with her, but Hiro survived. But Hiro almost became half klaxosaur like Zero Two. (fyi if u don't know yet, Zero Two is half klaxosaur, her DNA is half the professor's and half the klaxosaur princess's)
Actually they had met when they were kids but the 'dads' knew and decided to delete their memory about their meeting.
But then they meet again when they're teen , and after they connect for some time, their memories become connected and they knew that they had met when they were little.
That's when they decided to stay together and get to each other no matter how hard the situation will be. Thus, at episode 20-ish when they knew that their actual enemy isn't klaxosaur, but the space creatures, they had to fight for the earth because only they can save the earth.

Overall, I would give rating 7/10 for this anime.
Why only 7/10?
1. I think it's getting boring after some episodes , because the story is not concise. Basically, only fighting klaxosaur and the other squad member isn't as strong as Strelizia and Strelizia just eliminates the enemy out as always.
2. Too much drama for Mecha anime. I know the genre already said "Drama" but it just feels weird watching mecha anime with drama.
3. The story isn't something that amazes me when i finished through till the end. But I feel satisfied with the ending, so it isn't very bad at all.

Conclusion
This is not the anime I would highly recommend if you are the type that gets bored quickly.
But i think it is decent enough if you got nothing to do and are curious because this became trending :)
